MOBILE APPLICATION AND AUGMENTED REALITY FEATURE

MY INITIAL APPROACH

My first step was to conduct user research to better understand the type of content that By Design's audience is interested in. Using Google Analytics I then compared that information to the analytics for the website. I payed close attention to the pages with the most page views and lowest bounce rates over the past 365 days. 

The analytics, for the most part, verified the users interests from the user research study. I used this information help decide which features to include in the mobile app.

I love the content that By Design puts out, I just wish I had a better way of tracking the online content.

MY DESIGN APPROACH

Staying consistent with the existing By Design brand I moved forward with the black and white scheme, which brings the content to the forefront. These two high fidelity wireframes show the top designs based off of a handful of survey and interviews. My next steps will be to move forward with one and continue designing the rest of the screens and of course, the AR feature.

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

By Design Magazine is a print + digital magazine and lifestyle brand showcasing an authentic lifestyle for the modern creative, while promoting creativity, community, culture, and style.

I reached out to two of By Design’s co-founders and pitched an idea to create and develop an Augmented Reality feature into their product. This feature would be in the form of an app that could scan certain images in the printed magazines and additional content would appear in AR. The co-founders were ecstatic at the idea and encouraged me to not only work on the feature, but design an app for the brand as well.

 

By Design has an existing website and social media presence, but does not have an application for its content. By introducing a mobile app, it can help users stay more connected.

I am the current Art Director of a magazine called By Design. To provide a more immersive experience into the content, I took the liberty to design an app and develop an augmented reality feature. I've always been interested in augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technology, so I wanted to take the opportunity to learn more about UX for AR and implementing that into a product.
